Beppie Trowell was a resident of Columbia, South Carolina in the 1930s. Her scrapbook reveals her particular fondness of poetry, mostly containing clippings from the “Poetry Corner” section of The Columbia Record, along with those from other publications. Her often wistful-toned selections give expression to a romantic at heart. Other clippings and printed items reflect her interest in Christian ethics, local events, and persons of interest. She assembled a few clippings and other printed matter in regards to Charles A. (Augustus) Lindbergh, perhaps in roundabout interest, as his wife, Anne Spencer Morrow, was herself a well-known writer and poet. Included, as well, are personally-received printed items and letters, but none too revealing of her. Rather, she is modestly and enchantingly revealed through sentiments penned by others, which she chose to keep.

1920-1939

Scrapbook created by Annette Draper ("My Memory Book", with designs and arrangement by Mabel Betsy Hill). It contains items dating from 1920 through 1924, documenting her time as a student at Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. The scrapbook includes autographs, newspaper clippings, photographs, event programs, and her diploma.

1920-1924

In 1941, Putnam County held a county-wide musical festival written and staged by Putnam County elementary schools called "Music America." Assistance was provided by Putnam and White County high schools, the Baxter Parent-Teacher Association, and Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. The event was held in the gymnasium on Tennessee Technological University’s campus. The songs and acting in the festival traced events throughout American history, including depictions of traditional Thanksgiving themes, colonial life, frontier life, and World War I. The musical acts also depict plantation life and slavery. The event was an observance of American Education Week. The collection contains newspaper articles, scripts, committee lists, song lists, song lyrics, sheet music, instructions for the event, and correspondence including regrets. Sheet music include "The Man on the Flying Trapeze," "Sandy Land: American Folk Song," "Daisy Bell," "The Liberty Song," "My Buddy," "Old Hundredth," "Pop Goes the Weasel," "Springfield Mountain (Appalachian Mountain ballad)," and "A Paper of Pins." There was also a Prayer for Thanksgiving.
